Alici and Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Receive Toques in the First Edition of Gault & Millau’s UAE 2022 Guide

The prestigious Gault&Millau Guide has launched in Dubai with over 130 of UAE’s best restaurants up for review in the first edition of the Gault&Millau UAE 2022 guide. An exciting feat for Orange Hospitality, both Alici and Il Borro Tuscan Bistro were recognised in the guide and received one toque each while Wine Director, Eleonora Caso was named the Sommelier of the Year.

A team of independent reviewers from Gault&Millau have spent time dining in Dubai’s culinary scene to carry out anonymous reviews, which were paid for in full, in order to discover the crème de la crème of the industry. The winners and rankings were announced at an exclusive gala at the iconic Burj Al Arab, attended by renowned chefs, restauranteurs and key industry leaders. Points were awarded to restaurants based on the entire dining experience including the décor, quality of tableware, the welcome, the service, atmosphere, drinks offering, knowledge of the staff, and quality of the food.

Receiving a noteworthy 13.5/20 points, Alici was described by Gault&Millau as an “elegant Italian seafood with designer interiors”. Reminiscent of the vibrant Amalfi Coast, Alici aspires to bring to the table a taste of South Italian flair with exquisite seafood delicacies and vibrant handmade pieces of art adorning the interiors. Artists like Lucio Liguori, Paolo Sandulli, and Gio Ponti have hand crafted bespoke pieces for Alici. Located on the beautiful Bluewaters Island next to Ain Dubai, Alici offers a fresh and vibrant atmosphere for guests to enjoy the finest Italian sparkling and crudo specialties.

Also recognised in the inaugural edition of Gault&Millau Dubai is award-winning Il Borro Tuscan Bistro. Receiving 13/20 points, Gault&Millau describes Il Borro Tuscan Bistro as “classy Italian bistro food with added flair”. In a charming setting in Jumeirah Al Naseem’s Turtle Lagoon, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro offers authentic Italian cuisine in a warm and inviting atmosphere. With a rich history originating in Tuscany at the Il Borro estate, the team behind Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Dubai aims to uphold the sustainability principles and provide a true farm-to-table dining experience with various seasonal products sourced directly from Il Borro’s own farm, “Orto del Borro”. An extensive wine collection sourced directly from Il Borro’s vineyard in the heart of Tuscany completes the Il Borro experience.

Another feat for Orange Hospitality, Wine Director Eleonora Caso was awarded the prestigious Sommelier of the Year award. The merit was awarded based on a sommelier who went above and beyond regular duties. Not only does Eleonora curate fantastic wine selections for the group’s fine dining venues including Alici, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Dubai, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro London, and MayaBay, she oversees a team of more than a dozen individuals while also running her beverage consultancy, Cuvee3. When it comes to wine, she is knowledgeable in all aspects from defoliation of the vines to the best pruning times and unique pedoclimatic conditions. Assisting guests with their wine selection and decanting vintages, her knowledge and expertise is well communicated as she is able to best guide guests with their wine pairings for the evening.

With recent toques claimed and awards given to Orange Hospitality by Gault&Millau, Orange Hospitality is more motivated than ever to stand out and be the best of the best in the industry. Orange Hospitality founder, Omar Saideh claims that “Having bodies that can judge our work so impartially can bring a lot of talent to this industry and this will revolutionise it even more.” Continuing to push culinary boundaries, the group will soon launch its new Parisian dining concept Josette, in ICD Brookfield Place later this year.
